One thing I had heard over and over about having a second babe is that your belly doesn't go down as quickly as with the first. Like any woman, I wasn't particularly keen on this thought, but figured there was nothing I could do about it! Well, as I began doing some reading I discovered that there is something that can be done about it and women in native cultures have been practicing it for years- it's called belly binding (or wrapping)!I know the phrase sounds a little barbaric, but hear me out! Basically, belly binding involves tightly wrapping the abdomen in the days, weeks and even months after birth to help the body's organs and tissues return to their proper place. In particular, it helps the uterus to contract and shrink back down to size more quickly, aiding in the overall healing of the mother.
Belly binding can be done in a variety of ways, including wrapping a long piece of cloth tightly around yourself numerous times, but in my searching I found the perfect and most easy way to achieve a good bind- it is called The Belly Bandit!
