Okay- PLEASE don't let the fact that I don't have a picture cause you to look this recipe over- it would be a crime! This is the recipe for my FAVORITE Chewy Caramel Bars! They are beyond delicious! When I need a little cheering up these puppies and a big bowl of chocolate chip ice cream go a long way!! I hope you enjoy!
Chewy Caramel Bars
Ingredients:
32 Caramels
2/3 cup (5 1/3 oz. can) evaporated milk
1 cup flour
3/4 cup old fashioned or quick oats (uncooked)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup butter
6-12 oz chocolate chips (I usually go for more!)
Directions:
Combine dry ingredients; cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve 1 cup. Press remaining crumb mixture into bottom of greased 9x13 baking pan. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.
Melt caramels with milk in covered double boiler or saucepan over low heat.
Sprinkle chocolate pieces over baked crust. Pour caramel mixture evenly over chocolate and then sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over the top. Continue baking another 20 minutes. Chill 2 hours and enjoy!!!
